UK Travel Awards

This is for those interested in study for a short period of time.

Overview

The Trust makes up to three travel awards per year to students (graduates and, PhDs), scholars and museum professionals based in India wishing to speak at conferences or undertake research or study in the field of Indian art and cultural heritage, for a short period of time.

Grant Amount:

The awards, which are of a maximum of £1,500, are intended to support maintenance and/or air fare to and from the UK.

Eligibility

Candidates must be citizens of India who are either studying or are employed by museums, galleries or other institutions concerned within the arts and heritage sector.

Duration

These awards are intended for short visits of between one to two weeks and must be taken up the financial year from May of the year of the award to the end of March in the subsequent year.

UK Institutional Affiliation

Candidates must demonstrate that they have established communication with any institution, organisation or individual relevant to their application, that they will be able to gain access to relevant research materials or that they have been invited to a conference or meetings with colleagues or collaborators.

Final Report

At the conclusion of their visit, Travel Award holders must submit a report of approximately 500 words about their visit to the Trustees.

This is a single award and you are responsible for all aspects of your travel to and accommodation etc in India.

Visa Information

  • The UK visa type you should apply for is ‘Academic Visitor’ within the Standard visa category.
  • The V&A will provide you with a letter which you will need to submit with your application.
  • The V&A will request your passport number, full name as it appears on the passport and the expiry date.

Your award is for a fixed amount. You are responsible for ensuring that you can cover all your travel and related costs from a combination of this grant, any other grants, any local hospitality that you may be offered or from your own resources.
