Professor Ambika Bipin Patel

Dr Ambika Bipin Patel, UK Visiting Fellowship (Charles Wallace India Trust) 2013-14 while Curator-Assistant Professor, Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sahajirao University of Baroda, for a study of museum educational programmes for school children in the UK.

Now Professor and Head of the Department of Museology at the MS University of Baroda, she holds a BSc in Chemistry, A Bachelor in Education, MAs in Museology, Tourism Management, Archaeology and Ancient History and a PhD in Archaeology and Ancient History. She became Associate Professor in 2014 and full Professor in 2017.  She is a member of many professional organisations, including ICOM, ICOMOS, SOSSA, ISPOS, IAS, IHC, ISBS, MAI and IASC and is an editorial board member of several journals: Studies in Museology; Heritage; Journal of Multidisciplinary Studies in Archaeology. She was Member of the University Granth Nirman Board, Government of Gujarat 2014-17.

She was Principal Project Investigator of UGC Major Rsearch Project: “Technology and the USe of COpper: Study of Harappan/Chalcolithic Copper Artefacts from Gujarat”, has supervised many PhD students, presented at many conferences, published many articles and, in 2022, the book: Buddhist Heritage of Gujarat : Representation, Preservation and Promotion.

Besides the UK Visiting Fellowship from the NTICVA she has held other international awards: the Council of American Overseas Research Center Cultural Heritage South Asia Fellowship 2007, the the Indo-French Social Scientist Education Exchange Fellowship 2013, the Andrew W. Mellon Conservation Fellowship 2015, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin Fellowship 2016. Within India she has held awards from the UGC, the ICCR, and Small Study and Research Grants from the NTICVA in 2003 and 2004.
