Ms C V Sharada was awarded a Small Study and Research Grant (India) 2011-12, when PhD student at Deccan College, Pune, to conduct ethnographic surveys in and around the sites of Farmana and Mitathal in Haryana, to document animal species remains and to explore the relationship between man and animals.
Ms C V Sharada is an Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) with a strong focus on archaeology. Her research primarily involves the reconstruction of past human-aimal and human-environment inter-relationships throught the scientific study of bioarchaeological remains. She has analyzed faunal remains from more than a dozen sites in India and Europe – working on the delineation of the sites’ prehistoric and protohistoric animal utilisation strategies and their taphonomic trajectories. Currently she is researching the Indus Civilisation’s worked bone industry and palaeoproteomics of archaeofaunal strategies. Her publications include studies on pottery functionaliaties (thought absorbed residues within ceramics) from the Harappan sites of Karanpura and Ropar, and on food memories andthe diaspora of culinary traditions from the rural scape of Dholavira. Her research has been published in journals such as Quaternary Environments and Humans and Ethnoarchaeology.
