Dr Kamal Giri was awarded a Small Study and Research Grant (India) 1994-95, when a Assistant Lecturer in the Dept of History, Benaras Hindu University, Varanasi, to study ritual objects and temple accessories in Varanasi.
Prof. Kamal Giri was Assistant Curator Bharat Kala Bhavan Banaras Hindu University from 1970—1977, Lecturer, from 1977—1979, and Assistant Professor from 1979 to her retirement in 2003. She took on the role of Honorary Joint Director of the Jnana Pravaha Center for Cultural Study and Research, Varanasi in 2006.
She has published more than 100 research papers on different aspects of Indian Art and Culture, has five books to her credit on Indian Art and Culture and presented papers in the seminars in India and abroad. She wan the Assistant Editor of Chhavi: Felicitation Volume of Rai Krishnadas (1981) and the Editor of Khajuraho in Perspective (1994). She also edited Kala: The Journal of Indian Art History Congress from 1995-96.
