Dr Arati Deshpande Mukherjee

Dr Arati Deshpande Mukherjee, Small Study and Research Grant UK (1999-2000),  Scientific Assistant, Deccan College, Pune, for materials relating to her training in scientific techniques for research on molluscs in Indian archaeology.

Dr Deshpande Mukherjee is now (2026) Associate Professor in Zooarchaeology, Deccan College PGRI, Pune, with an significant record of teaching and research.  Her research interests include Archaeozoology, Archaeomalacology, Environmental Archaeology, South Asian Protohistory, Harappan archaeology, Ethnoarchaeology and coastal archaeology .

Recent major research projects  are: (from 2021-24) as principal investigator in SERB-DST Project Human response to climate change during the Indus Valley civilization: An integrated Archaeomalacological and stable isotopes study from select Harappan sites in India for 3 years: with coinvestigators Profs.Anindya Sarkar and Sushma Deo; and (from 2023 – ) as co- principle investigator : Tracking the antiquity and climate-human interaction from Iron Age/Late Vedic to Medieval period at Vadnagar using isotope and latest chronological techniques”.
