Dr Alok Kumar Kanungo was awarded a Small Study and Research Grant (India) 2002-03, when a research scholar, Deccan College, Pune, for an ethnoarchaeological study of glass beads in Purdalpur.
Dr Kanungo completed his PhD in 2003 and is now Associate Research Professor, Humanities and Social Sciences (Jointly with Earth Sciences department), IIT Gandhinagar.
