Dr Riza Abbas was awarded a Small Study and Research Grant (India) 2007-08, when Project Officer, Indian Rock Art Research Centre (IIRNS), Nasik, for a study of anthropomorphic forms in the prehistoric rock art of Ehambar Basin.
Dr Abbas’s 2021 publication, Exploring the Rock Art of the Chambal Basin captures the research and documentation work conducted by the author and his team between 2003 and 2014 in the states of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, and showcases astounding discoveries of paintings on the rocky surfaces in the Chambal basin by prehistoric forbears. The book presents details of these earliest visual symbols that primordial humans shared, and describes the salient features of the large corpus of an array of colorful images to be found on the walls, floors, ceilings, and cavities of overhanging and protruding cliffs, butte, mesa, bedrock, etc.
