Dr Sachin Kumar Tiwary was awarded a Small Study and Research Grant (India) 2013-14, when a researcher at Patna University and contract archaeologist at the Archaeological Survey of India, for an ethnoarchaeological interpretation of rock art from Kaimur District of Bihar.
Ethno rock art is one of the neglected disciplines of Indian Archaeology. In this work apart from the brief about the rock art of Kaimur, a detailed attempt was made to interpret the rock art taking clues from ethno-archaeological evidence. The project was divided into three phases: data collection, analysis and the collection of background information. The collection of information started with a wide review of books and articles published on Kaimurian rock art; researches about the occupants of those territory through the ages; and the survey of specific data about their Ethno Rock Art.
From 2013-2015, Dr Tiwary was Assistant Archaeologist, Sarnath Circle, Archaeological Survey of India and, from 2015-16, Deputy Superintending Archaeologist, Excavation Branch-III, Nagpur, Archaeological Survey of India. From 2016 he has been Assistant Professor, Banaras Hindu University, where he has taken up further research on Kaimur District and other cognate subjects.
