Ms Kristine Michael was awarded a UK Travel Award (1998-99), as a ceramic artist in New Delhi, for research towards a study of the pioneers of the Indian studio pottery movement in UK museum collections and archives.
Dr Kristine Michael is ceramic artist, arts educator, curator and historian of Indian ceramic and glass works. She trained in ceramic design at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, under Dashrath Patel, and later at Aldermaston Pottery, UK, with Alan Caiger-Smith. Her formative years in Auroville and at Golden Bridge Pottery, Pondicherry, with Ray Meeker and Deborah Smith established a strong grounding in wood firing and stoneware glazes.
She has held over 26 solo shows and participated in international and national group shows. She is the recipient of Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, The Charles Wallace Trust Award, Sanskriti Award, among others. She has curated the Ceramics Gallery at the renovated Albert Hall Museum (Jaipur). She curated an exhibition ‘The Art of Kripal Singh Shekhawat’ for Delhi Art Gallery, which was showcased at the Indian Ceramics Triennale 2018 (Jaipur) and Museum of Legacies (Jaipur). She curated at Serendipity Arts Festival in 2019, 2020, 2024 and 2025. Her curatorial projects include Multiple Reailties-Voices in Contemporary Indian ceramics at Clarch Gimhae Museum Korea in 2023-2024 among others. She has recently presented on ‘Indian Glass- History and Contemporary’ at The Glass Art Conference University of Texas Arlington USA. She is Co-editor of Mrin, Journal of Indian Ceramic Art. Kristine is based in New Delhi and is currently Curriculum Leader at The British School.
